GUNZBERG, GERMANY – This May, LEGO¨ will open its fourth theme park in this Bavarian town, featuring LEGO building brick-inspired rides and attractions brought to life with the latest audio, visual and show control technology from Edwards Technologies, Inc. (ETI).
LEGOLAND Deutschland follows the successful opening of the company’s first US theme park in Carlsbad, California, where ETI provided more than 90 percent of the audio video systems integration.
“LEGOLAND California provided ETI with an opportunity to demonstrate how experiential technology could help take the LEGO brand to the next level, making it more pleasurable, and therefore more memorable to the public, ” says ETI President Brian Edwards.
Since the park’s opening, ETI has been involved in a number of expansion projects, performing control and integration work for a new roller coaster, live show, restaurant, sponsor expressions, and a high-definition 4D digital cinema, opening this summer.
LEGOLAND Deutschland builds on the success of Carlsbad and the company’s earlier-built theme parks in Billund, Denmark and Windsor, England, offering 40 rides and attractions spread over 14, 000 acres surrounded by lush Bavarian forests.
As in Carlsbad, ETI will provide the technology to bring a child’s imagination to life, transforming LEGO block lions, giraffes and fairy-tale characters into living objects. There will be miniature moving cityscapes, suspended pedal cars, a medieval castle, a roller coaster, an interactive musical fountain, and many more exciting attractions made possible through the integration of ETI technology.
“One of the attractions we’re most proud of is LEGO’s new high-definition 4D theater, ” says Edwards. “With a 36-foot-wide screen, it’s the largest high-definition 4D theater in existence.”
ETI supplied the audio and video technology for the theater, adding a fourth dimension of in-theater special effects that leaves the audience windblown, wet and feeling like they are part of the action. ETI is installing the same theater simultaneously at all four LEGOLAND theme parks.
The family-owned LEGO Company, founded in Denmark in 1932, is the world leader in providing quality products and experiences that stimulate childrenÕs creativity, imagination and learning. It does so through playful activities that encourage hands-on, minds-on creation, fun, togetherness and the sharing of ideas. By 2005, the company wants the LEGO brand to be the strongest in the world among families with children.
